On behalf of myself and the entire board, I would like to welcome you to the Georgia 911 Directors Association Web page. I am honored to serve as the third president of such an important and upcoming organization. As we face the challenges of 2009 I look forward to the next year in working with the membership. There are many daily issues that we face such as personnel, technology, legal, legislative changes and the budget just to name a few. Together as a collective body there is no issue that we can't understand, attempt to modify, or learn together. I believe that we have a great network in Georgia to exchange information with each other to solve problems. As with any new organization there is a need for expanding membership and recruitment. The Georgia 9-1-1 Directors Association also needs to grow by adding new members so that we will have strength in numbers when it is time to stand up to be counted. We need to get more information out there about our organization to educate on who we are and what we do. It is also important that we continue to serve the needs by assisting current and new communications managers and directors when they need advice or guidance. I hope that it will be a great year for the Association and its members.
The Georgia 9-1-1 Directors Association is an organization whose purpose is to:
- A. Aid and assist in the collection and dissemination of information relating to Public Safety Communication Management.
- B. Promote and support the development and management of Public Safety Communications.
- Its membership is open to all persons who are directors, assistant directors, and any person who has managerial responsibilities of a Public Safety Communications Operation.
The Georgia 9-1-1 Directors Association will be successful by working closely with established organizations, such as APCO and NENA, and is not intended to replace these vital organizations. The Georgia 9-1-1 Directors Association will be the vehicle used to take issues and concerns of the 9-1-1 community in Georgia to the appropriate audience.
The Association was organized in 2004 and already has made an impact on legislative agenda’s at the State Capitol. Directors from across the state were instrumental in the successful passing of HB470, an omnibus bill addressing many concerns and discrepancies in previous legislation dealing with the 9-1-1 community. This was accomplished by the Directors of the State of Georgia coming together as “One Voice” with a common message.
The Georgia 9-1-1 Directors Association will continue to work to bring our issues to the State Legislature and other groups throughout the year in an effort
