Georgia NENA presents the following awards for outstanding performance.  Each award is listed below with a synopsis of the requirements for consideration. Please fill out your Award Nomination Write up, and mail your nominations to the Awards Chairman at:

NOMINATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2008

TELECOMMUNICATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD: This award is presented to an individual telecommunicator in recognition of their exemplary handling of a specific 9-1-1 or emergency call for assistance. Consideration is given to skills and knowledge exhibited in the areas of communications and leadership, and the telecommunicator’s ability to respond to unusual or special circumstances.

    Awards Criteria: The nominee’s handling of a specific 9-1-1 or other emergency call should reflect his or her ability to: Listen and comprehend the caller’s request for help; Take command of the conversation to obtain necessary information; Make independent decisions related to proper emergency response; Think and respond quickly and/or creatively as the emergency situation dictates; Reassure a frightened, confused, or upset caller; Address the needs and concerns of the caller; Remain calm and maintain professional discipline in handling of the call; Respond as special circumstances may dictate, including coordinating multi-jurisdictional agency response or local resources other than public safety.

COMMUNICATIONS / 9-1-1 CENTER OF THE YEAR AWARD: This award is presented to the Communications/9-1-1 Center that has exemplified outstanding professionalism, leadership, and innovation to the community it serves, as well as to its region and state. This may be demonstrated by its contribution to the advancement of Public Safety Communications, including technology, management and training staff.

911 DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD: This award is presented to a 9-1-1 Director in recognition of their accomplishments, encouragement, motivation and support.

    Awards Criteria: Nomination letter must describe how the nominee presents a positive attitude, demonstrates their proficiency / efficiency in their job duties, how the nominee has improved working conditions for his / her employees, how the nominee motivates his / her employees and his / her willingness to act s a mentor and role model. Describe how the nominee has improved the overall quality of service provided to the community. Provide a list of the nominee’s professional affiliations and accomplishments.

TEAM 9-1-1 AWARD OF MERIT: This award is presented to a group of two or more telecommunicators in recognition of their exemplary handling of a specific 9-1-1 emergency, such as natural disaster or other situation that involves the coordination of multiple public safety responses and other emergency resources.

    Awards Criteria: Same as for telecommunicator of the Year Award.

SHIFT SUPERVISOR OF THE YEAR AWARD: This award is presented to an individual Supervisor in recognition of their outstanding service as a Supervisor of Telecommunicators and for the exceptional professionalism in the field of emergency communications that is demonstrated on a daily basis.

    Awards Criteria: The nominee should demonstrate a positive attitude toward all aspects of the job. Ability and willingness to be a leader and team player. Professionalism and pride in quality of work, including the work of subordinates. Comprehensive and thorough knowledge of the profession. Flexibility in task assignments and capabilities; Ability to demonstrate leadership in the various situations of day to day operations of the Communications Center; Job performance above and beyond the call of duty.
